The Story: For hundreds of years, women of West Africa made and used this vegetable-based soap to gently cleanse skin and hair. [African] Black Soap is traditionally made from locally harvested African plants such as plantain skins, cocoa pods, shea tree bark, or palm tree leaves. The plant matter is then sun-dried and roasted at a consistent temperature until it turns into ash. The ash is added to water along with various nurturing fats like palm oil, coconut oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, and palm kernel oil. This mixture is heated and hand-stirred for at least 24 hours until it begins to solidify before it’s removed and left to cure for two weeks.
How to Use: With warm water, wet soap bar, and create a gentle lather in your hands (a little goes a long way). Apply lather to your face or body and massage gently in a circular motion. Rinse with cool water and pat dry. For best results, moisturize with our Face Butter after use.
